Barcelona Nord Bus Station has now finished the transformation process that has turned it into the city’s new tourist mobility hub, concentrating Barcelona’s arrival and departure flows in the same place. This transformation is part of a comprehensive project promoted by the City Councillor’s Offices for Mobility and Tourism and Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (B:SM), with the aim of regulating coach mobility and calming traffic in the city centre.

The project’s goals are to promote cultural and local tourism, foster quality collective transport and improve service experience, improve connectivity between the various means of public transport and reclaim public space for city residents, while contributing to the city's overall policy of sustainable mobility.

A new main entry point, connected to public transport

The station’s transformation has involved the restoration, adaptation and modernisation of its spaces, to accommodate users and transport companies alike with maximum guarantees of convenience and comfort.

The work carried out also includes the opening of a new main access point that connects the bus station to the city Metro and the Rodalies commuter rail service at Arc de Triomf. Thanks to its connections with other types of transport and its central location in the city, Barcelona Nord is a benchmark space for city’s main tourist excursions and departures.

The new main entrance leads to the new Mediterranean Space, an area intended for tourist excursion user assistance and also conceived as a waiting room, with direct access to the bays where the coaches leave from.

The old restaurant area has been renovated and a new cafeteria built so travellers can enjoy the best services before or after their trip to Barcelona.

Barcelona Nord Bus Station’s transformation has concluded with a restyling of its image, a more modern logo and a comprehensive renovation of its website, improving its usability.

New excursions and tourist offices

To calm traffic in the city centre and regulate coach mobility, the station has become a central arrivals and departures point for tourist or group passenger lines which used to stop at several points in Barcelona. The move here will also improve safety for users of these lines and benefit operator service quality, as Barcelona Nord has the necessary infrastructures for managing these passenger flows, providing all the required services.

An example of this change is Tibibus, the shuttle that connects the city centre with Tibidabo, and which previously set off from Plaça de Catalunya but has been operating from the bus station since June. June was also the month that Julià Tours started operating from the station, having moved its head office there. Likewise Catalunya Bus Turístic, offering other excursions to several tourist points including Montserrat and Port Aventura as well as the Camp Nou Experience.

The city tourist board, Barcelona Turisme, has also set up new information office there, an added advantage for station users who will now have quality information at their disposal on the region's tourist and cultural offerings.

Besides these new excursions, the station retains its main activity, the regular services to domestic and international destinations, and continues to offer coach departures to the snow, specifically to the La Molina and Masella resorts, on the Skibus run by Viatges Plus, a company belonging to the Sagalés Group.
